100 electric buses to be added to Dublin Bus fleet
Dublin Bus is to have 100 double-decker battery-electric buses added to its fleet starting in 2023.
The 100 battery-electric buses have been ordered as part of the first phase of the National Transport Authority’s procurement process for up to 800 zero-emmision buses over the next five years.
As part of this first phase, 120 buses have been ordered in total, at a cost of €80.4 million. It is expected that 20 buses from the first order will be deployed for use by Bus Éireann in the Limerick Metropolitan area.
The buses are to be manufatured and assembled at the Wrightbus facility in Galgorm, near Ballymena in Northern Ireland.
The fully-electric buses – ‘Streetdeck Electroliner BEVs’ – will produce zero tail-pipe emissions.
Passenger facilities on each bus will include:
seating for 65 passengers
a permanent wheelchair space
a dedicated pram and pushchair space
digital real-time passenger information displays
USB charging sockets & free Wi-Fi.
