Half-price travel fare extended to 24 and 25-year-olds with Young Adult Leap Card
In a significant move to enhance public transport affordability for young adults, Ireland's Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan, has announced an expansion of fare discounts. Now, individuals aged 24 and 25 can also enjoy 50% reduced fares on public transport, aligning with the existing benefits for younger adults and students.
Enhanced Accessibility with the Young Adult Leap Card
The Young Adult Leap Card, previously catering to those between 18 and 23, has broadened its scope. This expansion includes not only young adults up to the age of 25 but also full-time third-level students aged 16 and above.
A Leap Towards Affordable Travel
Minister Eamon Ryan expressed his enthusiasm about the initiative, highlighting its significance for young adults, particularly those aged 24 and 25. "This extension is a boon for young people, especially those embarking on their professional journeys, offering them a more affordable travel option," he remarked. The Minister also noted the increasing use of public transport by young people, a trend that supports both economic and environmental goals.
Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority (NTA), emphasized the positive impact of the expanded Young Adult Leap Card. "This development not only makes public transport more accessible for 19 to 25-year-olds but also encourages its use until their 26th birthday," she said. The move is expected to significantly increase the use of public transport among young adults and students.
