Public transport in Dublin for St. Patrick's Bank Holiday

On St. Patrick’s Day Sunday 17th March 2024 and over the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend, Dublin’s public transport operators are operating to a special timetable.

Trains

  • Intercity trains and Darts will operate to a Sunday timetable on St. Patrick’s Day, with some additional Dart and commuter services in place to facilitate access to and from the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin city centre.

  • On St. Patrick’s Day Sunday 17th March, Tara Street station will be closed until 4pm to facilitate Garda crowd management arrangements for the parade. If you are travelling to Dublin City Centre by Dart to see the parade, you’ll need to get off at either Connolly or Pearse stations.

  • On St. Patrick’s Day Sunday 17th March into Monday morning, late night train services will be in operation on several Dart and commuter routes:

    • 00:20 Dublin Pearse to Maynooth

    • 00:30 Dublin Pearse to Howth

    • 00:30 Dublin Connolly to Greystones

    • 00:40 Dublin Pearse to Dundalk (serving Tara St, Connolly, Howth Junction and then all stations to Dundalk)

    • 00:50 Dublin Pearse to Kildare (serving Tara St, Connolly, Drumcondra, and all stations ParkWest to Kildare)

  • On Saturday 16th March, it is expected that there there will be extra Dart trains running due to the Ireland vs Scotland Six Nations rugby match at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin 4.

  • Darts will run to Sunday service operating hours on Monday 18th March.

Trams

On St. Patrick’s Day Sunday 17th March, Luas Red and Green Line services will run Sunday operating hours.

Due to the St. Patrick’s Day parade, there will be partial closures of both Red and Green Luas lines.

On Bank Holiday Monday 18th March 2024, Luas trams will run to Sunday operating hours.

Buses

On St. Patrick’s Day Sunday 17th March, Dublin Bus services will operate to Sunday timetables and City Tours will not be in operation.

To facilitate access to and from Dublin City Centre, Dublin Bus will have several temporary bus termini in place between first bus and approximately 5pm on St. Patrick’s Day.

  • Wood Quay (pick up)

    Routes 26, 37, 39, 39a, 52, 60, 70, C1, C2, C3, C4, G1 and G2.

  • Upper Ormond Quay (set down)

    Routes 26, 37, 39, 39a, 52, 60, 70, C1, C2, C3, C4, G1 and G2.

  • Cook Street

    Routes 49, 54a, 56a, 68, 69, 74, 77a, 150 and 151.

  • Mark Street

    Route 47.

  • Mountjoy Square North (on the north side of the street)

    Routes 33, 38, 38a, 41, 41b and 41c.

  • Mountjoy Square North (on the south side of the street)

    Routes 7, 7a, 40, 40b, 40d, 120 and 145.

  • George's Quay

    Routes 6, 27a, 27b, 130, H1, H2 and H3.

Due to the parade taking place in Dublin City Centre on Sunday 17th March, diversions will be in place on around 60 bus routes from approximately 6am to 5pm. More information on affected routes is available on the Dublin Bus website.

Dublin Bus Nitelink services will operate on Friday 15th, Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th March 2024. On Bank Holiday Monday 18th March 2024, all Dublin Bus services will operate to a Sunday schedule.

Regular timetables will resume on all Dublin Bus services on Tuesday 19th March 2024.
