Public transport in Dublin for St. Patrick's Bank Holiday

Shamrocks

On St. Patrick’s Day, Monday 17th March 2025 and over the rest of the Bank Holiday weekend, Dublin’s public transport operators will operate to a special timetable.

Trains

Intercity trains and DART services will operate to a Sunday timetable on St. Patrick’s Day, with additional services on the DART and commuter routes to facilitate access to and from the St. Patrick’s Day parade in Dublin city centre.

Saturday 15th March

  • A Saturday service will operate on all routes.

  • Extra 19:45 Tralee to Cork service will run for the Kerry v Armagh Allianz Football League match (advance booking required).

Sunday 16th March

  • A Sunday service will operate on DART and Commuter routes.

  • A revised timetable will operate on Intercity routes – check times before travel.

St. Patrick’s Day, Bank Holiday Monday 17th March

  • A Sunday service will operate on DART and Commuter routes, with additional services from Howth, Malahide, Bray, Greystones, Kildare, Maynooth, Longford, Drogheda, and Dundalk before and after the parade.

  • Customers are advised to check times and allow sufficient travel time, as high demand is expected for the 12:00 parade start.

  • Tara Street Station will be closed until 16:00 to facilitate Garda crowd management arrangements. Use Connolly or Pearse stations instead.

  • An extra 09:25 Connolly to Howth DART will operate for those traveling to the Aware Harbour2Harbour Walk.

Late Night Trains (operating after midnight on 17th March, appearing as 18th March on timetables):

  • 00:20 Pearse to Maynooth

  • 00:30 Pearse to Howth

  • 00:35 Connolly to Greystones

  • 00:40 Pearse to Dundalk (serving Tara St, Connolly, Howth Junction, and all stations to Dundalk)

  • 00:50 Pearse to Kildare (serving Tara St, Connolly, Drumcondra, and all stations ParkWest to Kildare)

Trams

On St. Patrick’s Day, Monday 17th March, Luas Red and Green Line services will run Sunday operating hours.

Due to the St. Patrick’s Day parade, there will be partial closures of both Red and Green Luas lines:

  • Red Line: No trams between Smithfield and Connolly / The Point from 10:00 to 15:00. Trams will run between Tallaght / Saggart and Smithfield only during these times.

  • Green Line: No trams between St. Stephen’s Green and Dominick from 07:00 to 18:00. Trams will run between Broombridge and Dominick, and between St. Stephen’s Green and Brides Glen only during these times.

  • Museum Stop Closure: The Luas Museum Stop will be closed from 15:00 to 17:00 due to an event in the area. Please use Luas Smithfield or Heuston Stops as an alternative.

On Bank Holiday Monday 17th March, Luas Red and Green Line services will run Sunday operating hours and frequency.

Buses

On St. Patrick’s Day, Monday 17th March, Dublin Bus services will operate to Sunday timetables, and City Tours will not be in operation.

To facilitate access to and from Dublin city centre, Dublin Bus will have several temporary bus termini in place between first bus and approximately 5pm on St. Patrick’s Day:

  • Wood Quay (pick up): Routes 26, 37, 39, 39a, 52, 60, 70, C1, C2, C3, C4, G1 and G2.

  • Upper Ormond Quay (set down): Routes 26, 37, 39, 39a, 52, 60, 70, C1, C2, C3, C4, G1 and G2.

  • Cook Street: Routes 49, 54a, 56a, 68, 69, 74, 77a, 150 and 151.

  • Mark Street: Route 47.

  • Mountjoy Square North (north side of the street): Routes 33, 38, 38a, 41, 41b and 41c.

  • Mountjoy Square North (south side of the street): Routes 7, 7a, 40, 40b, 40d, 120 and 145.

  • George's Quay: Routes 6, 27a, 27b, 130, H1, H2 and H3.

Due to the parade taking place in Dublin city centre on Monday 17th March, diversions will be in place on around 60 bus routes from approximately 6am to 5pm. More information on affected routes is available on the Dublin Bus website.

Nitelink Services Nitelink services will operate on Friday 14th, Saturday 15th, and Sunday 16th March.
